Have you ever felt concerned about a behavior, feeling or reoccurring thought? Have you tried to handle it yourself but noticed it gets worse? Do you rely on your family and friends to help you but feel disappointed because they can’t or won’t help? Do you have a hard time figuring why you feel this way?
If you answered ‘yes’ to any of the above it could be time for you to get professional help. You wouldn’t consider fixing your own leg if it was broken or replacing the engine in your car if it stopped working. You aren’t embarrassed to take your broken leg to a doctor or to have your car fixed by a stranger. There is no shame in needing help when you feel stuck. Many people find self-help books and do very well in fixing their own problems. Some ignore those feelings or behaviors thinking they will go away or tell themselves, ‘ I can handle it.’
Many people come to me as a last resort. They have tried everything else, including medicine, and have not been able to shake those feelings, change those behaviors or feel happy.
Sometimes my clients are so busy taking are of others in their life that they just forget to take care of themselves. They are overwhelmed by the problems and events around them and feel terrible that they can’t ‘fix’ their loved ones. One client told me she began smoking again because the “s— hit the fan.” It wasn’t her s— and it wasn’t her fan but smoking seemed like the thing she could do for herself. Her family all depend on her for everything and she has been a caregiver her entire life. She just wants some time to take care of herself and feels guilty about that. Using a variety of modalities I was able to help her feel calm and relaxed and eliminate the guilt (without cigarettes!) I taught her a variety of things she could do to take care of herself first as her health is deteriorating and that she couldn’t help anyone if she was disabled.
We can’t control the events around us, we can’t control the people around us but we have 100% control of how we respond to them or how we allow them to affect us. All hypnosis is self-hypnosis and that can be very helpful, but managing our stress and letting go of the things we can’t control must be learned and practiced every day. I wonder who will teach you how to do that.
When the quality of your life is not what you want and you have unsuccessfully tried to make it better, reach out and get help. I promise you will be glad you did. Remember, some of the best years of your life are yet to come! Embrace them and begin to feel better today. The only thing you can control is yourself, when will you begin to do that by eating well, sleeping well, exercising and drinking lots of fresh water you will feel the difference! Now is the best time to start! When you know better, you do better. When your body is physically healthy your mind feels better too! Let go of the past, embrace the present and prepare for a happier future!
