Conquer Phobias With Hypnosis?

Phobias: Conquer Them With Hypnosis?

I was taught that we are born with only two innate fears: the fear of falling and the fear of loud noises. All other fears must be learned. It is not difficult to understand how we learn to be afraid. It seems like parents spend a lot of time making children afraid in an attempt to keep them safe.  They don’t want their children to get hurt so parents come up with many things to keep them afraid.

Phobias, however, are irrational fears that from my experience have their roots in a previous experience. The previous experience can be totally unrelated to the phobia. For example; a gentleman came to me for a fear of public speaking that he thought began in college with a professor telling the public speaking class that when you stand in front of a group to speak you begin to feel tight in the chest, breathing becomes difficult, you may begin to sweat and you feel really scared. He basically described a panic attack. This appeared to be the onset of this man’s fear of public speaking.  In hypnosis, using a regression technique, I brought him back to the first time he felt that same scary feeling and he described the scene: “I am 3 years old, my parents are screaming at each other and plates are breaking.” Even though this was not in his conscious memory, that fear remained in his unconscious mind and was triggered by the professor’s comments. From then on he associated the fear with public speaking. At the end of the session, the fear was gone.

Many clients come to me as a last resort with a variety of different phobias. They don’t want to take drugs because they don’t feel better on the meds, just a milder version of the fear or phobia. One common phobia I have worked with is a fear of driving on the highway or over bridges.  I have always found a previous experience that created the phobia, even though until the state of hypnosis, they were unaware of the previous incident. After a few sessions of hypnosis, driving is no longer an issue.

All your life experiences, the good, the bad and the ugly, are stored in the unconscious part of the mind.  When something happens that triggers the previous experience, all the scary feelings come back vividly and get bigger each time.  Its not that one is actually afraid of something; the fear is of feeling afraid. A phobia is a fear of feeling afraid.  Whether it's a fear of heights or driving or snakes…it is a fear of the way they feel that is the real issue.  It is a feeling of being out of control.  You are not out of control, but you feel like you are.

It is a shame that people live with phobias because they get worse over time and it is not necessary to suffer!  Hypnosis make take a few sessions but it is the most effective way to eliminate the fears and phobias that interfere with the quality of life for those who suffer needlessly.  Everyone responds differently to hypnosis and each time it is easier and easier to go deeper and deeper.

Weighty Issues. When you know Better, You Do Better

Weighty Issues…When you know Better, You Do Better

Recently I’ve noticed that a large number of my clients are dealing with issues related to their relationship with food… Several describe themselves as addicted to carbs or sugar, while others have no idea about the effects of food and junk on their body.  My weight control clients are often suffering from painful joints, fatigue and feelings of depression. Many of them are on medication for cholesterol, diabetes, blood pressure, anxiety and depression.

The conditions that go along with weight problems are a direct result of the nature of the foods being eaten. The biggest issues are related to bread, pasta, pizza, junk food and sweets. According to, “Our natural feel-good brain chemical is the neurotransmitter, serotonin. Our bodies naturally make this in balanced amounts. Sugar raises the serotonin level in our brain. Hence, we can understand why we “feel good” eating sweets. Through this mechanism, sugars cause the body to have a chemical high mentally, which results in a lift in mood. However, the huge problem with this is that over time the body cuts back serotonin production, which results in slight to serious depression. Just by not having a “sugary” substance, one can experience mood swings, unhappiness, irritability and other negative symptoms. Basically put, sugar throws off your natural serotonin balance, and to add to this the brain is now addicted to getting the serotonin high artificially.” Sugar also contributes to inflammation in the body creating arthritis like discomfort in the joints. Sugar also creates acidity in the cells of the body making it easier for yeast, fungus, bacteria and cancer cells to flourish.  Sugar is stored as fat in the body and that is the basis for the unwanted weight and the alarming rates of diabetes that we hear about in our culture.

The easiest way to change the chemistry of the body, creating health and wellness, is to change your eating habits. Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine said, “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.”  It seems that many physicians have given up on that idea and prescribe drugs instead saying that patients are unwilling, or unable to change their eating habits. It is as simple as increasing the amount of dark green vegetables and eliminating junk food, (things that are edible but not food like chips, soda and candy) white flour products and processed packaged foods.  Even adding fresh lemon to your water helps balance the alkalinity of the body, reducing blood sugar levels that reduces sugar cravings, according to Just try it for10 days. If you don’t notice a difference in the way you feel, you can go back to the old habits. If you feel you can’t do it alone, get help. Eating is a habit, just like smoking and sleeping and when habits need to be changed, hypnosis is the fastest, easiest way to make those changes permanent.

The reason my weight loss clients are so successful is because there is no “dieting”.  By educating my clients about food and their bodies, they find that when they know better, they do better. By changing their relationship with their body, they realize that their body requires nourishment and fuel, and that comes from food. By eating real food, not edible substances, the body releases unwanted fat. They never feel that they can’t have that stuff anymore, they feel they “don’t want” it any more.
